You've been bleeped: Postoperative deterioration, in association with Student BMJ

This module offers practical advice for newly qualified doctors and senior medical students on assessing and managing patients who suffer a deterioration during the postoperative period, plus tips on when to seek help from a senior.

Learning outcomes

After completing this module you should feel more confident in your ability to:

  • Carry out an assessment of a patient with low blood pressure in the postoperative period
  • Recognise the signs that might indicate possible sepsis in a patient who suffers a postoperative deterioration
  • Identify patients needing urgent senior review at an early stage
  • Initiate early management for patients with postoperative deterioration in a way that is appropriate to your level of training and experience.
