Hospital presentations: palpitations

An interactive module for internal medicine trainees on the management of three patients who present with palpitations.

Learning outcomes

After completing this module you should have the knowledge and confidence to:

  • Understand common presentations of patients with palpitations
  • Take a relevant and focused history from patients with palpitations
  • Formulate differential diagnoses for patients with palpitations
  • Diagnose arrhythmias from 12 lead ECGs and rhythm strips
  • Investigate palpitations appropriately
  • Initiate treatment for common and emergency conditions that present with palpitations
  • Understand more about commonly used anti-arrhythmic drugs
  • Understand when to involve senior and/or specialist colleagues.
